Migration of data and applications

Did you ask us about intranet deployment but it turned out you had some applications supported by older SharePoint versions? Then, we will advise you to migrate to the more recent SharePoint version.

Do you have a solution which requires updating but you are not sure if it is worthwhile?

Or perhaps are you considering migration of your solutions to Office 365 platform?

We will help you not only prepare the approach to migration and carry the process safely, but also analyse and optimise your solutions and deploy efficient IT Governance.

When and if to migrate?

If you are planning to deploy new solutions in a new version or a new environment, it is a good idea to use the existing IT infrastructure for new SharePoint version and strive to have a single environment for all applications. Consistent and comprehensive integration of the existing solutions with the ones to be deployed in a newer SharePoint version encourages migration. You will benefit also from the opportunities offered by the new platform version to the “old” applications. If you are not planning to deploy new solutions, but wish to eliminate part of the existing IT infrastructure and reduce some costs, migration to SharePoints Online 2013 is bound to bring the expected benefits.

We will discourage you from migration in the case of adverse price to benefits ratio. Migrating your application to the new technology, to obtain the same functionality, may be reasonable only with a low cost of such an operation.

Migration plan

The first step of migration is to prepare its plan. In the course of planning, the functional areas to be migrated are determined. For every area it is necessary to identify data structures, authorisation, websites and their components as well as functionalities delivered within the solutions, and also to define the approach to migrating every component.

The migration planning process is often a good time to assess if all the functionalities deployed meet the respective expectations, both in terms of business and technology. The best example of optimisation which can be carried out at this stage is replacing the existing, dedicated solutions with ready-made components available in the latest platform version.

Migration performance

The very process of migration takes place with tools matching performance of every migration task. Depending on the migration scenario, we use both own solutions and AvePoint Docave tools.

The migration process is not finished with the solution transfer. One of the most valuable components is the post-migration analysis enabling to draw conclusions. They not only help to reduce the duration and costs of subsequent migrations, but also implement or improve Governance policies, both with respect to development, operation and administration.

Our detailed approach to migration has been described in our blog.
